Ambulance chairs are heavy duty vehicles that provide emergency medical care and timely transportation of patients, and we generally only think of the patients and paramedics in an ambulance. But who can ride with you in an ambulance besides the paramedics? Let's find out below.
1. Main Passengers
-Paramedics
Paramedics help provide timely treatment and lifesaving care to patients during transportation to the hospital, and the ambulance needs to be designed to ensure mobility of personnel and ease of use of equipment so that patients can be properly treated and monitored.
-Patient
Ambulances are designed for patients in need of emergency medical care and are important vehicles for specialized patients.
2. Family and friends
Generally, the capacity inside an ambulance is limited, so consideration is given to the space for movement of paramedics and the space for use of nursing equipment, etc. Family members or friends will be allowed to accompany the patient inside the ambulance only under certain circumstances.
3. Minor patients
If the patient is a minor or a vulnerable patient, a parent or guardian may ride with the patient in the ambulance to provide safety, relieve anxiety, and consent to treatment.
4. Critically ill patients
Some patients may have had a history of medical conditions such as allergies, medications, chronic illnesses with recent treatments, etc. Family members or friends who are more able to provide this important information in a timely manner will benefit the paramedics in treating the patient accordingly and in a timely manner.
5. Crew Discretion
Of course, emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and paramedics will prioritize the patient's health, consider the patient's condition, treatment space, etc., and ultimately delete and agree on who can ride with the patient in the ambulance.
6. Cautions
-Ambulances have limited space and generally accommodate 1-2 additional passengers.
-It is not permissible to allow a companion who is intoxicated or under the influence of drugs or alcohol to ride with the patient in order to avoid posing a danger.
-Additional companions are usually seated in the front compartment of the vehicle with their seat belts fastened.
7. Different policies
The riding policies of different ambulance companies differ in some cases, such as prohibiting non-medical passengers during high-risk emergencies (e.g., trauma cases), and allowing escorts to provide psychosocial support in other services.
